# Connect to the Coach Board MCP

The Coach Board MCP lets an AI agent (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or any MCP client) build football and basketball plays on a Coach Board tactical board, and hand them back for articles.

- **Endpoint:** `https://ai.coachboard.app/mcp` (MCP over Streamable HTTP)
- **Access:** a personal access key, sent as `Authorization: Bearer <key>`

## 1. Get an access key

Access is private for now. Join the waitlist at https://www.coachboard.app/mcp and we will email you a key when your spot opens. A key is shown once; it can be revoked at any time, and Coach Board only stores a fingerprint of it.

## 2. Connect your agent

**Claude Code**

**Any other MCP client:** add an HTTP (Streamable HTTP) server with:

- URL: `https://ai.coachboard.app/mcp`
- header: `Authorization: Bearer <key>`

## 3. Check it works

Ask the agent to list the `coachboard` tools. There are 22: three for plays (`new_board`, `export_play`, `load_play`) and 19 for building the board. On connecting, the MCP also tells the agent the workflow.

## Good to know

- **Each connection has its own play.** Changes add up across calls; a new connection starts fresh.
- **Nothing is ever saved by Coach Board.** The play only exists in the connection until you export it.
- **Cost:** the thinking runs on your agent's side (for example your Claude subscription). Coach Board's server only runs its own code.
